Your Voice Matters
We believe that each person, with their unique experiences and passions, has incredible power and potential. The first step in becoming an activist is recognizing your own worth and then demanding a world that recognizes it, too.
Reminder: there is no qualification or certification to become an “activist.”
Activism is standing up for and speaking up for the movements that matter to you, to the best of your individual abilities. In the words of The #YouArePower Project founder, Morgan McCaul, “Activism can be a distraction, a creative endeavor, and a way to make sense of the incomprehensible.“
We seek to empower and amplify your voice, alongside a community of like-minded Michiganders, to engage with organizations and volunteer opportunities around the state.
Self-Care Is Important
We recognize that this work can be physically and emotionally taxing, and that’s why we provide a variety of ways to get involved. The #YouArePower Project encourages you to honor your strengths and abilities.
We want this movement to be safe, sustainable, and as deeply personal as the movements that motivate you.
Activism for Introverts
The loudest voices aren’t the only voices that matter. Stay tuned for our upcoming ‘Activism for Introverts Guide’ with tips, tricks, and practices tailored to new activists and introverts.
The Power of Storytelling
Lastly, we want to reiterate the value of each individual voice. We are all shaped by different life experiences and motivated to tackle tough issues for unique reasons. Sharing your story can be a way to engage members of your community and inspire others, no matter how niche your personal journey may seem.
“When leaders learn how to meld the use of stories with the left-brain data-based information they also need to convey … well, this becomes irresistible. Their influence and engagement becomes more powerful, and real change occurs because people are moved to action.“
If you’ve made it this far, you’re already have the emotional and intellectual equipment to be an activist. #YouArePower, and don’t forget it.
